Can AI pick hit songs?
No, and anything claiming otherwise is selling you a confidence figure it cannot support — but it can do the reading, listening and cross-checking that has to happen before a person makes that call, on far more artists than a person can cover.
Why the answer is no
A hit is decided by things that have not happened yet: a placement, a moment, a co-sign, a shift in what the audience wants six months from now. No amount of analysis of a record as it exists today closes that gap, and a system that reports a high-confidence prediction about it is reporting the wrong number confidently.
The honest position is that the value is upstream of the judgement, not in place of it.
What it can do
Work the open field overnight against a written brief and come back with names you had not seen. Compile a complete file on each one with a source attached to every claim. Listen to the record against the references you saved and say what it heard, with a timestamp. Score the things that can be scored, and say how sure it is about each.
None of that is a prediction. All of it is work that had to happen before you could form a view, and most of it never happened for most artists because there was never enough time.
How the honesty is built in
Every scored attribute carries a confidence figure, and thin evidence lowers the confidence rather than the score. The system is explicitly not allowed to convert a small amount of proof into a strong claim.
That is the design decision that separates a tool you can use from one you have to second-guess: it is built to be uncertain out loud.

Checkable
All 5 scored attributes carry their own confidence figure alongside the score, and thin present proof lowers that confidence rather than capping the score. Star power — the attribute most prone to inflation — is kept out of the weighted total entirely, at weight 0.
A standing rule in how the assessment is produced, asserted by the test suite, so the behaviour cannot quietly change without failing the build.
